“We’ve had so many failed dinners lately, I’m sure the simplest of meals would satisfy us,” Dane answered with a chuckle. “All right, let’s draw up the contract.”

Thus begins Margaret Sullivan's new role as housekeeper of the large and busy Westover household. “Uncle Dane,” Robert spoke up suddenly, polishing his plate with his slice of bread-and-butter, “what does 'fill the nursery' mean?”
Silence reigned for a long moment. Irresistibly, Dane and Margaret’s eyes were drawn to each other, and they exchanged a smile across the table. Dane saw Shem’s brows rise as he looked from one to the other.

Robert looked blank.

“Will he call Uncle Dane Papa?” Molly said suddenly.

Margaret, a little startled by the question, glanced at the little girl’s pensive face. “Well, yes,” she answered. “Uncle Dane is his papa, you know.”
